Navy Regional Maintenance Centre opened in Cairns

Fantastic news and a solid initiative by the minister of Defence and the ADF. What’s glaringly missing is the nomination of an RMC for the NW of Australia.

Australia’s NW is the likely jump-off point for future fleet and expeditionary operations, it is also the closest geographic point of the Aust mainland for the maintenance and repair of Naval vessels (battle damaged or maintenance requirements), and decreases the cycle time for vessels to return to operations (3-4 days steaming time difference between Henderson and Broome).

Let us get serious and be bold, create a strategy and nominate potential locations for a RMC in Australia’s vital NW!
